Concern about impact of Sexual Offences (Procedure and Evidence) Act

Monday, December 29, 2003

“New rape law under attack: A new law designed to make trials easier for rape victims and help secure convictions is having the opposite effect, legal experts warned yesterday. . . “ Herald. 27.12.03.

“Law to protect alleged rape victims should be clarified to spare ordeals: Law made in haste is invariably bad law [. . .] There is anecdotal evidence to suggest that it is not doing the job intended, namely to treat vulnerable witnesses fairly during court proceedings. . .” Herald. Leader. 27.12.03.

Unfortunately The Herald does not put Saturday editions on-line.
