CjScotland: off-line on Sunday

Since our launch in October 2003, this site has undergone a number of changes whilst keeping the news blog as the core service.

We are now overhauling both the appearance and structure of these pages. Changes will include, for example, a direct feed from the Scottish Executive Justice news page showing press release headlines as they appear; eliminating the largely redundant ‘comments’ option; pensioning off the ‘crumpled can of the national drink’ graphic and a new approach to the reporting of Parliamentary business.

Our aim is that the revised site will be easier to navigate and generally offer an enhanced service yet maintaining our policy of free access to all readers.

We will need to take the site off-line at some point on Sunday (according to current plans) and hope to have the new version running as soon as possible thereafter.

To mark the change we are publishing the full transcipt of a round table discussion run by Fellows Associates on Community Justice: the way forward in Scotland which took place in January as part of a series of six events taking place across the UK. Participants included Cathy Jamieson, David Strang, Bob Holman, and John McInnes. An abbreviated version was published by the New Statesman earlier this year.

Footnote: before it disappears for good and just for the record, the books in the ‘crumpled can’ logo were - Main Findings from the 1993 Scottish Crime Survey; Duff and Hutton (eds) (1999) Criminal Justice in Scotland. Ashgate; Braithwaite, J. (2002) Restorative Justice and Responsive Regulation. OUP; Devon, J. (1912). The Criminal and the Community. John Lane.
